• A District Court Jury has found Nelson R. Brady Jr. guilty of three counts of Solicitation to Commit Murder. Brady Jr. was convicted of attempting to hire an assassin to kill Anthony Gross, Megan Pierson Foley and Jeremy Foley.

  • A jury this afternoon convicted Raven Navajo of second degree murder for the January 2007 death of Brenda Schmalfeld. Sentencing will take place April 9, 2008 in District Court Department 8.

  • A District Court civil jury found Veronica Schmidt negligent in the deaths of four individuals and awarded the victim’s families $1 million for grief or sorrow and loss of companionship Tuesday (Nov. 20) evening in Department 12. Schmidt was not present for the jury’s verdict.

    The civil lawsuit was brought by survivors following a March 2005 crash that killed Raquel Jimenez, Angelica Jimenez, Samantha Allen, and Reginald Williams .

    The jury found the City of Las Vegas was not negligent in the accident.

  • A Clark County District Court Jury found defendant Scott Dozier guilty of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon and robbery with the use of a deadly weapon in the death of Jeremiah Miller. Miller’s body was dismembered and his torso was found in a suitcase behind an apartment building in 2002. A penalty hearing in the case begins today (Sept. 26) in District Court Department 9. Jurors can choose to sentence Dozier to death, life in prison without the possibility of parole, or 40 years to life in prison.

  • A District Court Jury found defendant Dushon Green guilty on 19 of 20 counts this evening in the courtroom of Judge David Wall. Green was found not guilty on a single count of sexual assault. He was found guilty on 19 other charges ranging from sexual assault with a deadly weapon to lewdness with a child under the age of 14. The jury concluded that between December 1996 and March 1998 Green raped seven female victims in a case that became known as the Flamingo Road rapist.

    Green’s bail was revoked and he was remanded into the custody of the Clark County Detention Center. His sentencing was scheduled for November 5, 2007 in District Court Department 21.

  • A Clark County Jury returned a mixed verdict today (Aug. 13) in State v. Zana finding defendant Mark Zana not guilty on 11 of 21 counts. The jury returned 10 guilty verdicts in the case. Zana was found guilty on four counts of Lewdness with a Child Under the Age of Fourteen and six counts of Possession of Visual Presentation Depicting Sexual Conduct of a Person Under the Age of Sixteen.

    The jury acquitted Zana on five counts of Lewdness with a Child Under the Age of Fourteen and six counts of Possession of Visual Presentation Depicting Sexual Conduct of a Person Under the Age of Sixteen.

    Sentencing has been scheduled at 8:30 a.m., October 4, 2007, in District Court Department 5.

  • A twelve-member jury reached a verdict in State v. Shawn Michael Shelton this evening concluding the defendant was guilty of four out of five counts.  Shelton was found guilty of First Degree Kidnapping, Sexual Assault with a Minor under Sixteen Years of Age, Battery with Intent to Commit Sexual Assault with a Minor under Sixteen Years of Age and Use of a Minor in the Production of Pornography. The jury returned a not guilty verdict on one count of Robbery.

    Bail for Shelton was immediately revoked and he was remanded into the Clark County Detention Center. Formal sentencing on the four counts will take place at 9:30 a.m. May 31, 2007 in District Court Department 12.

  • A 12-member jury has returned a verdict of Guilty of First Degree Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon in State v. James Valdez. In addition, the jury found Valdez guilty of Attempted Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon. A penalty phase will begin at 9 a.m. Monday (April 2) in District Court Department 6.

    Valdez faces a possible death penalty for the slaying of 31-year-old Teresa Tilden and the attempted murder of Shiloh Edsitty in November 2004. The jury found Valdez not guilty of a charge of Assault with Use of a Deadly Weapon.

    When announcing the verdict, the jury foreman told Senior Judge Joseph T. Bonaventure that the jury had already considered a possible penalty for Valdez. Despite that fact, Judge Bonaventure told the jurors they must still consider aggravating and mitigating factors in the case prior to reaching a penalty verdict. He then directed the jury to return Monday morning.

    “Never in my 30-plus years on the bench, never have I had a jury tell me they’ve already made a decision” regarding penalty, said Judge Bonaventure, outside the presence of the jury. Judge Bonaventure requested input from the prosecution and the defense attorneys and indicated he may have more to say about this matter before the penalty phase begins April 2.

  • After deliberating more than 12 hours a District Court jury found Kristin Lobato guilty of voluntary manslaughter and sexual penetration of a dead human body this afternoon in the courtroom of District Court Judge Valorie Vega. The guilty verdict concludes a four week trial. Labato was accused of a 2001 attack on a homeless man in Las Vegas who was found dead near a trash bin with his genitals severed. Sentencing will take place November 21, 2006 at 9 AM in courtroom 16B.

  • A Clark County Jury found Pascual Lozano guilty on all counts related to the shooting death of 9-year-old Genesis Gonzalez. The penalty phase for Lozano begins tomorrow at 10:30 AM in Judge Valerie Adair’s Dept. 21 courtroom.
