• A Las Vegas man accused by the Nevada Secretary of State of 32 felony counts, including fraud, theft and filing false documents made his first appearance before Justice of the Peace Tony Abbatangleo this morning (Jan. 4) in a Las Vegas courtroom.

    Matthew Marlon next appears on January 18 for a preliminary hearing in the Justice Court. The criminal complaint, filed by the Nevada Attorney General, accuses Marlon of stealing from homeowners struggling to make their mortgage payments. Marlon allegedly would enter into contracts with homeowners promising to pay their mortgages and then fail to do so in an illegal practice called equity skimming.

  • A preliminary hearing for defendants Jessie Daniels and Cheryl Luell has been rescheduled by Justice Court Judge Joe M. Bonaventure for 9 a.m. on January 14, 2008 in Justice Court Department 9.

    Daniels and Luell are charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, Burglary, Grand Larceny, and Attempt Grand Larceny.

  • Public Defender Jeff Banks indicated the defense needs more time to prepare for a preliminary hearing in State v. Chester Stiles and the state concurred with the request. Judge Deborah Lippis rescheduled the preliminary hearing for 10 a.m. Dec. 12, 2007 in Courtroom 7A.

  • Media wishing to park satellite and live vans in the designated parking lot, must line up starting at 7 a.m., Wednesday (Nov. 7), on Casino Center between Clark and Bonneville Avenues. Media must provide the Court Information Office with parking needs by Tuesday at 5 p.m.

    A media staging area has been created on Clark Avenue. Currently media will be able to set up in this area Wednesday afternoon. Media setups will not be allowed on the sidewalk bordering Third Street. We will work to move up the setup time on Clark Avenue to earlier in the day Wednesday.

    Media representatives must obtain a pass to work in the media staging area and attend the preliminary hearing. Media without a pass will not obtain access to the stagng area or the courtroom. Media wishing to obrtain media passes for this preliminary hearing must check in at the South Information Booth of the Regional Justice Center between 1 and 5 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 7).

    A meeting to discuss television and still media pooling needs will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Courtroom 1B.

  • Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Joe M. Bonaventure scheduled a preliminary hearing for Nov. 8 and 9 in Las Vegas and ordered all defendants in the case to be present. In addition this morning, attorneys for co-defendants Walter Alexander and Clarence Stewart acknowledged that their clients were aware and understood the charges against them. The preliminary hearing will begin at 10 a.m. on Nov. 8 in Courtroom 1A of the Regional Justice Center.

  • Justice of the Peace Karen Bennett-Haron took under advisement a request by the Clark County District Attorney to bind-over Clark County Recorder Frances Deane to the District Court to face trial. Bennett-Haron set a Sept. 14, 2006 court date for a decision. Deanne has been accussed of selling public records for personal gain. A two-day preliminary hearing concluded this afternoon.

  • Justice of the Peace Karen Bennett-Haron scheduled a preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. on July 5, 2006 for County Recorder Francis Deane. Deane has been charged by the Clark County District Attorney with 19 counts alleging misconduct of a public officer, fradulant appropriation of property, theft, offering false instrument for filing of record, and unlawful commissions, personal profit and compensation of public officers.

  • A preliminary hearing for Shawn Shelton has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on June 16 in Justice Court Dept. 7 (8C) of the Regional Justice Center. Shelton has been charged with First Degree Kidnapping with Use of a Deadly Weapon and Sexual Assualt with a Use of a Deadly Weapon (Victim under 16 years). He has been accused of kidnapping a 14-year-old and sexually assaulting him. Shelton was captured in Corona, California and returned to Las Vegas to face these charges.

  • The preliminary hearing for Marc Anthony Colon was continued this morning to April 13, 2006 before Justice of the Peace Karen Bennett-Haron. The District Attorney’s Office indicated it was attempting to obtain an indictment from the Clark County Grand Jury. If an indictment is obtained the preliminary hearing date will be vacated. Co-defendant Gladys Perez was indicted by the Grand Jury last week and a trial date of August 22 was set before District Court Judge Michelle Leavitt.

  • Justice of the Peace Doug Smith released Joshua Michael Corcran on his own recognizance (O.R. release) with the condition that he serve house arrest and relinquish his drivers license. A May 22 preliminary hearing date was set.

    Corcran reported this morning to the Clark County Detention Center for processing. His house arrest begins immediately. Corcran has been charged with 5 counts of Reckless Driving and 4 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter.
