Clark County and Family Court to Celebrate National Adoption Day

Clark County Courts will host the Eighth Annual Adoption Day Celebration on November 5, 2009. More than 80 children will have their adoptions finalized by the Family Court.
WHAT: Eighth Annual Adoption Day
WHEN: Thursday (Nov. 5) at 8:30 a.m.
WHERE: Family Court Atrium, Family Court and Services Center, 601 N. Pecos.
EVENT: County Commissioner Chris G. Giunchigliani will deliver the keynote address as Clark County’s Family Court, the Division of Family Services, and CASA observe the Eighth Annual Adoption Day at 8:30 a.m., Thursday (Nov. 5), in the Family Court Atrium, 601 N. Pecos, Las Vegas.
More than 50 parents will welcome more than 80 children into their families during adoption proceedings scheduled between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in five courtrooms.
Judges William E. Gonzalez, Cynthia N. Giuliani, Jennifer Elliott, Sandra L. Pomrenze and Senior Judge Terry Marren will preside over adoptions. Families and judges will be available to interview regarding the adoption process.

Las Vegas Justice Court Walk-In Attorney Sessions

Effective September 15th, 2009, Las Vegas Justice Court Traffic Division will no longer schedule Attorney Sessions. These sessions will be heard utilizing a daily open format, on a first come, first serve basis.
Attorneys may simply show up to Courtroom LLB with a printed register of actions. A maximum of 15 citations will be heard per visit. No need to pre-schedule or visit the Traffic Division Office several times before being heard. Court will be closed for lunch from 12 pm – 1 pm and for two 15 minute breaks (break times will vary).

Investiture Ceremony for New District Court Judges

The Clark County Courts recognize the selection and admission of new judges to the bench with formal investiture ceremonies.
WHAT: Investiture ceremony for newly appointed District Court Judges Douglas E. Smith, Abbi Silver and Cynthia Giuliani.
WHEN: 2:30 p.m., Friday (Feb. 6).
WHERE: Las Vegas City Council Chambers, 400 East Stewart, Las Vegas.
EVENT: During this ceremony, Judges Smith, Silver and Giuliani will formally be administered the oath of office and will receive their judicial robes. Members of the judiciary, including the Nevada Supreme Court and the Eighth Judicial District Court, will attend the ceremony. All of the judges will make formal comments.
Judges Smith and Silver joined the District Court following their election in November after serving on the bench of the Las Vegas Township Justice Court. Judge Giuliani was elected to the Family Court in November 2008.

The End is Near: Traffic Amnesty Halts February 6, 2009

THE END IS NEAR: TRAFFIC AMNESTY HALTS FEBRUARY 6, 2009
CHIEF JUDGE TO ISSUE FINAL WARNING TO TRAFFIC OFFENDERS
Press Conference Scheduled
WHAT: The final days of Traffic Amnesty and the success of the “Pay the Ticket, Avoid the Click-it” campaign will be announced by Chief Judge Ann Zimmerman.
WHEN: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday (January 21, 2009).
WHERE: South Canyon Lobby near Traffic Division, Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Avenue.
EVENT: Time is running out for individuals with outstanding tickets in the Las Vegas Township Justice Court. Traffic Amnesty officially comes to an end on February 6, 2009. This press conference will highlight the accomplishments of the “Pay the Ticket, Avoid the Click-it” campaign, offer a warning to the court’s top offenders, and remind everyone that time is running out.
Since the beginning of the campaign in November 2008, “Pay the Ticket, Avoid the Click-it” has been a huge success. The campaign has allowed the Las Vegas Township Justice Court to collect nearly $2 million in unpaid tickets and close roughly 2,000 outstanding cases.

Clark County Courts Donates Toys to Sunrise Children’s Hospital

WHAT: Sunrise Children’s Hospital Toy Drive.
WHEN: Tuesday (Dec. 16), 12 noon.
WHERE: Sunrise Children’s Hospital, 3186 South Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89109.
EVENT: The Chief Judges of the Clark County Courts will deliver toys to patients at Sunrise Children’s Hospital. These dolls, trucks, DVDs and other items were donated by the employees of the Eighth Judicial District Court and the Las Vegas Township Justice Court to cheer up children ill during the holiday season.
Judges will be available for interviews surrounded by the donated toys at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 16) morning in the Court Administration Offices of the Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Avenue, Las Vegas. Video or photography of the judges passing out toys to the children must be coordinated prior to the event with Ashlee Seymour, Sunrise Children’s Hospital, (702) 279-8675. Cameras should meet in Sunrise Children’s Lobby at 12:00 pm

Las Vegas Justice Court Announces Amnesty for Outstanding Traffic Warrants

WHAT: Warrant Amnesty Announcement News Conference.
WHEN: 10:30 a.m., Friday (Nov. 14).
WHERE: South Entrance, Regional Justice Center, 201 Clark Ave., Las Vegas.
EVENT: The Las Vegas Township Justice Court will offer amnesty to individuals who have unpaid traffic tickets in the court. This news conference will detail the number of outstanding warrants and how court will work with its partners after amnesty ends to enforce them.
