Offenders Given One Last Chance To Pay Outstanding Fines
Las Vegas – Overwhelming demand has led the Las Vegas Township Justice Court to extend its Traffic Amnesty one more week through February 13, 2009.
“This extension is a one time event and will allow everyone wanting to clear up outstanding traffic tickets a chance to do so,” said Chief Judge Ann Zimmerman. “We thank everyone for their willingness to come to the court to honor their obligations.”
The counters at the Las Vegas Township Justice Court’s Traffic Division are open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This Saturday only (Feb. 7), the court will be open from 9 a.m. to noon to handle traffic payments. Additionally, individuals can pay traffic fines from home or office by using the court’s online system 24 hours a day at http://www.clarkcountycourts.us/paythefine or pay by phone by dialing (702) 671-3444.
After February 13, 2009, the Justice Court will begin issuing warrants for individuals who have failed to pay outstanding traffic tickets and will actively pursue collection for any outstanding obligation by turning over past due tickets to a collection agency.
Since the court sent out warnings in early December 2009, the Las Vegas Township Justice Court has collected more than $4 million in outstanding traffic tickets and closed more than 7,000 active cases.

Las Vegas Justice Court Reminds Offenders Time Is Running Out

“PAY THE TICKET, AVOID THE CLICK-IT” CAMPAIGN NEARS END ON FEBRUARY 6, 2009
The Las Vegas Township Justice Court’s Traffic Amnesty program “Pay the Ticket, Avoid the Click-it” ends on February 6, 2009, meaning individuals with outstanding traffic tickets only have a few more weeks to clear those up before the court issues arrest warrants and adds on new penalties. “There are nearly 140,000 people who have chosen to ignore our amnesty and time is running out,” said Chief Judge Ann Zimmerman.
Traffic Amnesty has allowed the court to close more than 3,000 cases and collect nearly $2 million since the campaign began on November 17, 2008. The program has succeeded beyond the court’s expectations, according to Zimmerman. Money collected enhances the Clark County General Fund, the State of Nevada General Fund, and returns revenues to taxpayers.
The court will continue to provide amnesty through February 6, 2009. After that date, the court will enforce arrest warrants for any unpaid tickets and will actively pursue collection for any outstanding obligation.
“People with outstanding fines could find themselves in jail with additional fines and penalties,” said Zimmerman. She adds, “We have seen hundreds of people arrange payment plans, clear up their fines or pay their obligations entirely.”
Roughly 220,000 traffic tickets are processed by the Las Vegas Justice Court each year. Customers can still take advantage of Traffic Amnesty by dialing (702) 671-3444 or visiting www.clarkcountycourts.us/paythefine or www.clarkcountycourts.us/pagarlamulta.

Campaign Seeks to Help Motorists Clear Up Unpaid Traffic Tickets
Individuals who have unpaid traffic tickets in the Las Vegas Township Justice Court will be offered amnesty until February 6, 2009 to pay an outstanding obligation.
“We are offering amnesty to anyone who wants to come in and clear up an outstanding ticket or warrant with no additional penalties,” said Chief Judge Douglas E. Smith. “Once amnesty is over, you risk additional fines, a mark on your credit report, or even arrest if you fail to take advantage of it. Amnesty is your best opportunity to take care of a longstanding obligation with the court.”
Amnesty for unpaid traffic obligations will remain in effect until February 6, 2009. Starting February 9, 2009 the court will begin enforcing warrants for all unpaid traffic tickets in the Las Vegas Justice Court. Individuals with outstanding warrants risk arrest for failure to pay an outstanding traffic obligation. The warrants will be enforced by local law enforcement.
“We are pleased to work as a partner of the court and will actively enforce warrants for unpaid tickets once this amnesty ends,” said Las Vegas Township Constable Robert (Bobby G.) Gronauer.
Individuals with outstanding traffic obligations with the Las Vegas Township Justice Court are encouraged to resolve them by calling the court’s automated phone system at (702) 671-3444 or (877) 455-1289, visiting the court’s payment website found in English: www.clarkcountycourts.us/paythefine and in Spanish: www.clarkcountycourts.us/pagarlamulta, or by coming in person to the Traffic Division Office on the First Floor of the Regional Justice Center at 200 Lewis Avenue.
