• The random assignment of a District Court judge to preside over State v. Simpson was initiated when Defendant Charles H. Cashmore agreed to be bound over to the District Court for sentencing.

    Judge Jackie Glass will preside over all future events in this case in the Eighth Judicial District Court. A former journalist, Glass has worked as an attorney since 1984. Judge Glass was elected to the District Court bench in 2002 and has served Department 5 since January 2003.

    If Judge Joe M. Bonaventure binds over the remaining defendants to the District Court for trial, Judge Glass has scheduled a felony arraignment at 10 a.m. on Nov. 28 in Courtroom 1A of the Regional Justice Center.

  • Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman found enough eveidence exists to bind over Cassandra Thomas and Joey Salas to the District Court for trial for the murder of Michael McClain. Both defendants will appear August 31 for an arraignment in the Lower Level of the Regional Justice Center. A third suspect, Corey Pearce, awaits extradition from Florida.

  • Defendant Richard A. Lacy waived his preliminary hearing this morning with the understanding he would enter a guilty plea on an Amended Complaint to be filed in the District Court on August 17, 2006. Lacy next appears at 10:30 a.m., August 17 for a Felony Arraignment in the District Court’s Lower Level Arraignment Courtroom.

  • Defendant Joshua M. Corcran (06F04949X) unconditionally waived his right to a preliminary hearing this morning in Justice Court Dept. 3. Corcran has agreed to enter into a negotiated plea agreement with prosecutors charging him with 5 counts of reckless driving. He will enter a plea at 10:30 a.m. June 8 in the Arraignment Court of the Eighth Judicial District Court.

    Corcran was charged with reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter following a February 19 traffic accident that caused the deaths of Victor De La Cruz-De Leon, Reymunda Lopez-Vazquez, Jose Manuel Lopez-Sanchez and Jose Roberto Mejia Lang. Another passenger, Cecilia Cruz, was injured in the accident.

    The negotiated plea agreement removes the involuntary manslaughter counts. Corcran faces a sentence ranging from probation to 30 years in prison.

  • Las Vegas Township Justice of the Peace William Jansen decided to bind over Michael Chambliss to face a second degree murder charge in the Eighth Judicial District Court. Chambliss will appear for arraignment April 26 at 3 p.m. in Lower Level Courtroom 1A.

  • Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore Melanie A. Tobiasson (Justice Court Dept. 2) found enough evidence to bind over Jeremiah Ayala and Amrin Ruth Ansley to face murder charges in the District Court for the death of an infant. Both defendants will appear at 10:30 a.m. April 24, 2006 in the District Court Arraignment Courtroom.
