The National Association of Counties has selected the Clark County District Court Jury Management System, e-Juror Web Module and Interactive Voice Response System for a 2006 Achievement Award. The court program was selected for its creativity and effectiveness in solving problems and providing excellent customer service. The award will be presented during the association’s annual conference August 6, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois.
“The eJuror system and the accompanying internet service has allowed the court to provide excellent service to those citizens we call upon to help us fill our courts with jurors,†said Jury Commissioner Judy Rowland. “The system allows jurors to quickly confirm or reschedule their jury service. We have seen it perform exceptionally well and reduce wait times, eliminate confusion and improve participation in jury service.â€Â
The eJuror system provides citizens with information about jury service, payment information, trial and court information, and an opportunity to postpone or defer service until a later date. Jurors can confirm their participation in the jury system, day or night, using the phone system or by logging into a web site. The system eliminates clerical errors, and answers questions about jury service, providing jurors with as much information as they need to feel comfortable with serving on a jury.
“Our jurors seem better prepared and less anxious about serving on a jury,†said Judge Kenneth Cory, who serves in the Eighth Judicial District Court’s Civil Division. “They have fewer questions about jury service, in general, and are more able to become prepared for the process of voir dire and eventual selection on a jury.â€Â
Funded by the Clark County Commission, the e-Juror Web Module and Interactive Voice Response System cost approximately $28,000, with annual operating costs of approximately $4,000.
“This is another example of how the court is working smarter to maximize our community outreach and service,†said Chief Judge Kathy Hardcastle. “It is an honor to be recognized by the National Association of Counties for another innovative program developed by the court, with the support of Clark County, to benefit the residents of southern Nevada.â€Â
Since 2002, the National Association of Counties has awarded Clark County District Court a total of 9 Achievement Awards. Following the program’s inception in 1970, the National Association of Counties Achievement Award Program has honored hundreds of county government initiatives that have improved service delivery, achieved greater cost efficiency, enhanced customer service and developed a better-trained work force.
