Today (April 26) Clark County’s District Court announced that during the 2007 calendar year it will begin the process of assuming operation, control and supervision of the Court Clerk’s Office.
As demands on the court system have grown, it has become more apparent that the court must make this change to respond to a growing caseload and competition for fewer resources. By managing the ministerial and clerical functions of the court clerks, the District Court has an opportunity to focus on areas of need and seek adequate resources to maintain an effective court system.
The future of Clark County’s District Court hinges on how well the court responds to the changing needs of the community. Many of the court’s current methods no longer apply and new strategies are needed to reengineer its business model. Additionally, demand and competition for fewer resources require the court to look for new ways to process a growing workload.
“Our vision is to develop a court system that can provide enhanced public service, while improving the operation of each court,†said Chief Judge Kathy A. Hardcastle. “By integrating the court clerk operation under the administration of the District Court, we are essentially rethinking how our court operates. We intend to create a business model that solves community problems and provides enhanced customer service.â€Â
The County Clerk has enabled the District Court to implement many improvements, such as electronic filing of documents and the electronic scanning and storage of documents. The court will continue to rely on the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of court clerk employees to improve court functions and procedures.
