The jury sentenced James Scholl to Live in Prison Without the Possibility of Parole this afternoon. His formal sentencing will take place March 27, 2006 at 9 a.m. in Dept. 9 (Courtroom 14A) of the Regional Justice Center. At that time the judge will sentence him on the remaining counts and impose the jury’s sentence.

The jury in State v. Scholl has reached a decision in the penalty phase of the trial. The jury will announce its verdict at 2:45 p.m. in Dept. 9 (Courtroom 14A).

The Clark County Grand Jury today indicted Donald Schuster (06-C-219685) in the death of Las Vegas resident JonMichael Ginolous.
Five counts were returned by the Grand Jury:
Count 1 - Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon;
Count 2 - Attempt Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon;
Count 3 - Battery with Use of a Deadly Weapon;
Count 4 - Attempt Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon;
Count 5 - Assault with Use of a Deadly Weapon.Chief Judge Kathy A. Hardcastle set Schuster’s bail at $500,000. He next appears before the District Court Arraignment Master February 27 to enter a plea and to schedule a trial date. The case has been assigned to District Court Dept. 4, Judge Donald Mosley.

The penalty phase for James Scholl continues this morning (Feb. 17) at 10 a.m. in Dept. 9 (Courtroom 14A) of the Regional Justice Center. Testimony will continue in the case. Yesterday, David Chitprasart, the son of victim Pairoj Chitprasart, talked about his father’s character and related his emotions upon seeing his father’s burned body.
Scholl’s brother indicated their family had a good life in Chicago but Scholl had turned to drugs at an early age.
Testimony continues this morning and the jury is expected to begin deliberations today.

A Las Vegas jury has found James Scholl guilty on all seven counts, including Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon.
Scholl, 34, was accused of the 2004 murder of cab driver Pairoj Chitprasart. Scholl also faced burglary, robbery and kidnapping charges for a separate incident involving cab driver Kebede Getahun. Tomorrow (Feb.16) the jury returns at 1 p.m. for the penalty hearing.

The Regional Justice Center Information Kiosks have served more than 117,000 people since the building opened October 14, 2005. This is a fraction of the number of people who have entered the building since it opened. For the past four months, 475,291 individuals have passed through the security scanners of the building.Information Docents, such as Bill Reed (above), answer questions about traffic tickets, case filings, probate, probation, trials, DUI schools and other matters related to business in the Regional Justice Center. On an average busy day information docents provide assistance to one customer every 20 seconds. In this photo, Reed answers a question posed by the 100,000th customer, Alegra Goode of California. Docents have been counting customers by hand since the day the building opened. In addition, a Frequently Asked Questions book has been compiled allowing docents to find the answers to questions so they can be ready the next time the question is asked.
The Regional Justice Center contains offices and courtrooms for the Nevada Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District Court, Las Vegas Township Justice Court, Las Vegas Municipal Court, Clark County Clerk, Clark County District Attorney and the Las Vegas City Attorney.

The jury in State v. Scholl received the case at approximately 2:30 p.m. and deliberated until 5 p.m. today. The jury returns tomorrow (Feb. 15) at 10 a.m.

Closing arguments in State v. Scholl are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 14) in Dept. 9 (Courtroom 14A) of the Regional Justice Center.
